“Mere to Giridhar Gopal” — Meera Pad

Deciphered lyrics with transliteration & interwoven meaning

Refrain

mere to giradhar gopāl, dūsaro na koī
For me, there is only Giridhar Gopal — there is no other.

mere to giradhar gopāl, dūsaro na koī
Truly, for me, Giridhar Gopal alone exists.

Divine marriage

jāke sir mor-mukuṭ, mero pati soī
He whose head bears the peacock-feather crown —
He alone is my husband.

mere to giradhar gopāl, dūsaro na koī
For me, Giridhar Gopal — none else.

Beyond public opinion

koī kahe kāro, koī kahe goro
Some say He is dark, some say He is fair.

koī kahe kāro, koī kahe goro
People dispute His appearance.

liyo hai akhiyā̃ ko mol
I have judged His worth with my own eyes.

Beyond conceptual judgment

koī kahe halko, koī kahe bhāro
Some say He is light, some say He is heavy.

koī kahe halko, koī kahe bhāro
Some call Him easy, others weighty.

liyo hai tarājū tol
I have weighed Him myself on the balance.

Return to certainty

mere to giradhar gopāl, dūsaro na koī
For me, Giridhar Gopal — there is no second.

mere to giradhar gopāl, dūsaro na koī
Only Him, and nothing besides.

Distance dissolved

koī kahe chānī, koī kahe chāvanī
Some say He is near, some say He is far.

koī kahe chāvanī
Some insist He is distant.

liyo hai pachantā tol
I have measured Him by intimate knowing.

Renunciation of identity

tan kā gahanā maĩ sab kuch dīn
All the ornaments of the body — I have given them away.

tan kā gahanā, sab kuch dīn
Every bodily adornment surrendered.

diyo hai bājūband khol
I even unclasped and gave away my armlet.

Final affirmation

mere to giradhar gopāl, dūsaro na koī
For me, Giridhar Gopal alone remains.

mere to giradhar gopāl, dūsaro na koī
No other refuge, no other claim.

jāke sir mor-mukuṭ, mero pati soī
He who wears the peacock crown — He alone is my husband.

mere to giradhar gopāl, dūsaro na koī
For me, Giridhar Gopal — there is no other.

One essential interpretive key

This pad moves through three inner pramāṇas (ways of knowing):

  1. Eyes (akhiyā̃ ko mol) — direct perception

  2. Scales (tarājū tol) — discernment, testing

  3. Pachantā — lived recognition / intimacy

Public descriptions collapse; only realized knowledge remains.

This is why the refrain is not emotional repetition —
it is epistemic certainty.

The Canticle of the Creatures: Word-by-Word

Most High all-powerful good lord

yours is the praise the glory and the

honor and every blessing to you alone!

Most High do they belong and no one is

worthy to speak your name!

Praised be you my lord with all your creatures

especially sir brother son who is the

day through whom you bring us light and

he is lovely, shining with great splendour for he

heralds you Most High!

Praised be you my lord

through sister moon and stars in heaven,

you have formed them lightsome and

precious and fair!

Praised be you my lord through brother wind, through air and

cloud, through calm and every weather by

which you sustain your creatures!

Praised be you my Lord through sister water so

very useful and humble precious and

chaste!

Praised be you my lord through

brother fire by whom you light up the

night and he is handsome and merry

robust and strong!

Praised be you my Lord

through our sister mother earth who

sustains us and directs us bringing

forth all kinds of fruits and colored

flowers and herbs!

Praised be you my lord

through those who forgive for your love

and who bear sickness and trial!

Blessed are those who endure in peace for by you

Most High they will be crowned!

Praised be you my lord through our

sister bodily death from whom no living

being can escape!

How dreadful for those

who die in mortal sin!

How blessed are those she finds in your most holy will

for the second death can do them no harm!

Oh praise and bless my lord thank him

and serve him humbly but grandly!
